Stances: Front Stance



Zenkutsu dachi (the front stance) is the most basic stance in Shotokan karate.







It is the first stance students will learn, and it is important to practice and practice it until it becomes second nature. Most basic drills are practiced in this stance, and it is used in almost all katas.


  • Feet should be about front
    shoulder-width apart
  • 60-70% of your weight should be on the front foot. BEND YOUR KNEE!
  • Point the back foot forward as much as possible.
